It's when you pull your front bangs or hair back into a poof. My hair was done professionally like it at my sister wedding and just pulling it closer to the mirror and pining it doesn't work. The hairstylist tied my hair so it would poof and added curls. I'm sorry that I don't have any curls but if you have the magazine"Sophisticate's HAIRSTYLEGUIDE, it's on page 69 called modern romanticism. All i do is take like front part of my hair and brush it good then pull it back then like put the bobby pins in to keep it there then i push the bobby pins forward to make it poof then i touch it up by pulling some of it up that didnt really raise up good for me. well, if you dont have bangs, take a bunch of hair from the front of your head like where your bangs would be in the middle and lift it up, make sure its combed. then, take a small comb and comb downwards near the roots at the back side of the chunk of hair. comb it down so it gets sort of bunched up and tangled looking but just so its like that in the back, and the front isnt messed up. that is the part where everybody sees. then twist the top of the bunch of hair and gently pull it back and secure it with like bobby pins or a clip. dont PULL the hair back bcuz it will flatten. just guide it down to your head. some girls dont need to use hairspray because their hair naturally cooperates. if your hair keeps going off to one side, then use hairspray. If the poof parts, then unclip the hair, and comb the back downwards even more.

Appointment places are individual people, working as a stylist and that is like their own company. They have to rent their station.

Places like great clips, custom cuts, master cuts, don't have to do that.

How do you use Velcro curlers?

I have naturally curly/wavy hair, but I don't like the way my natural curls look. I read in a magazine that velcro rollers are a good way to get large curls, but ever time I've used them my hair comes out straighter then before. I think the problem is I don't know how to unroll the curlers, but I've never used curlers before and have no clue how to use them.

i use them to calm my hair down though..

i put them under the strand of hair (the inside) and roll...i know that when i've put them on the outside of my hair my hair turned out curly/bouncy......so maybe you should try that?

oh and btw, since ur new with rollers (though you'll probably already know this): take a section of hair about 3 inches wide (depending on the size of your rollers), comb it straight, put the roller at the bottom of the hair and roll the roller up, then clip it into place on your head (but clip it inside the roller, not on the outside of your hair, this always leaves a dent for me) :)

Seriously though, I think one needs to ask ones self, why are we all sooo CONSUMED day in, day out with whether we're too fat or not, whether we have too much cellulite or whether our skin, nails, hair, makeup, style, colour, smell, walk is just not PERFECT enough! There was a time, the last year or so where I was totally depressed constantly about the fact I wasn't perfection, but I asked myself, "Hey Vicky, before you started buying into those magazines and the media turned papperatzi you were enjoying life, you were happy with you and so were others, but since then you've been self-obsessed, with a tint of self-loathness...Why are you doing this to yourself?" Why was I? Why are YOU? Infact why is every woman in the ******* country letting celebrities and stupid hypocritical journalists (who are probably overweight %26amp; have many flaws) letting people become so full of hate towards themselves. It's a real shame %26amp; I'm constantly seeing it. Why can't we just be healthy?*sighs*...Opinions?

I don't believe magazines are solely to blame for the pressure women put on themselves. They play a part yes but so does your environment and the way your brought up. I have suffered from an eating disorder half my life and would not say magazines or celebrities influenced this, but it doesn't help seeing all these severely underweight celebrities being praised for their style and for having the so called perfect figure. Us women are the ones who beat ourselves up over it we need to learn to accept what we're given and to be happy in our own skin. I've done the whole size 0 thing it did not make me happy, I'm now a size 8/10 with cellulite may I add and can honestly say I have never been happier or received more male attention in my whole life.

Hey everyone. I don't know if anyone will know the answer to this but I'm going to ask anyways. Does anyone know the name of the actress in one of the recent cosmogirls doing a makeup spread. The makeup is very colourful and the first page has the actress wearing a watermelon coloured shirt and water melon coloured gloss. She has brown hair. I don't use a brush when I do this to my hair. I scrunch it and keep running my fingers thru it until it dries. Aslo, add some leave in conditioner after you towel dry your hair, this will help a lot as well, wavy hair is sexy. And if you do this, no tangles, no problem!! :)

get those foamy weird looking rollers and roll your hair with that , jjust wrap your hair around it ..or if you don't have money for it ...get rips up strips of paper bag or old towels

if that doesn't get you curls try it again with your hair damp

and if THAT doesn't work go for the wavy style...braid your hair keep it that way then unbraid it the next day and waves

the only other option is to take curly iron and just methodically clamp it down the length of your hair and it will be wavy or clamp it down flick your wrist so it wraps around iron then let go

Are they for people who don't have children and want one that looks just like one? I see them in all of the magazines, and I think it is pointless. I have always collected porcelain dolls. I have done this since I was very young. My grandmother and my mother did the same. My grandma is fond of Victorian styled dolls while my mother likes the bride/formal dolls. I have always liked the newborn dolls. I have children and I don't collect them for any other reason than the fact that I like them. Some people collect stamps, some people collect comic books, I collect dolls.

Hey girlie,

Congrats on landing a gig with a magazine. Anytime you get booked on a gig you want to ask them a couple important questions. Will there be a make artist? For a magazine shoot I would think they would have someone on set to do your make up. If they do have a make-up artist don't wear any make-up just show up with a clean moisturized face. It really annoys most make-up artists when models show up with make up cuz then it takes extra time to wash it all off. If they are providing wardrobe show up in something cute and loose fitting. For instance if you are doing swimwear modeling or something of that nature you don't want to wear tight jeans in the car ride over that would leave those night jean marks on your body. But on every shoot I do regardless of if they are providing wardrobe or not I always pack a neccesity bag and put in some cool earrings, or necklaces, and shoes, something that might add to what they have. That way you come across as very professional and prepared. I could probably give you some better advice if I knew what kind of shoot it was. Feel free to email or im me if you need some advice. Having the model's name will NOT help you in finding out what makeup she is wearing. Makeup artists usually put makeup on those models and it's usually the artist's choice of makeup and colors. Usually this is not printed if it's for an ad or article not dealing with makeup looks or a particular makeup brand.

Unless this was an ad for makeup . . . if it was, then they usually have in fine print somewhere on the page what colors she's wearing.

No joke if you have red hair, i have seen interviews with people wo have red hair and their children who have been hounded and harrassed because of it. How our society has changed, I went to school in the early 50's and had a mop of vivid ginger hair, I had no bullying or problems at all. Wrong. Those sorts of magazines are so hilariously stupid it makes me laugh when I see them in the checkout lines at supermarkets. I'm not a very good writer, i'm a painter but i think that by looking at different areas of the arts you can improve the way you do another.

Imagine that a normal book is like a normal painting, it presents everything as you would see it. There's a man, he looks like a man, in a house that looks like a house.

Now when photography came along this exact image was not required and people moved on to do different things, Van Gogh, Picasso etc. There was no need to spend hours painting something you could take with a camera in a couple of seconds.

So people started to play with what they were doing. Literature has also managed to go through this. Getting rid of cronological order, chaging perspectives and things like this.

It may not be your cup of tea, but it might be an idea playing around with things. I am currently having to read Katz und Maus (cat and mouse) from gunter grass, he has a narrator but he makes it clear that the narrator is probably lying to us, misusing information, not telling all of the truth.

There are many other things you can do with a narrator that can make a book less obvious as to how it is going to turn out.

You start with "I" and make it clear that you are the narrator, maybe it is an idea to hide this fact. Or use a few narrators, without telling the reader who is who but changing the style of writing. So one could always think about one thing, while another looks at it in another way.

Have a scene where something happens, then have a different narrator talk breifly about this scene but saying that someone else carried out a certain act.

It's not always easy, and maybe it isn't what you want to do, but they are ideas and knowledge is power!!!

I really like it except you need to change one thing when you bring in a new charecter dont tell us all about them just the important stuff like you dont have to metion their height but other than that I loved it.

I'm looking for information on a painting of a red-haired girl at the beach?

I was watching the Antiques Roadshow and this woman had a magazine cover with a painting of a little red-haired girl at the beach. I think that it may have been Saturday Evening Post but I'm not sure. The lady also had a painting of the same scene. The little girl in the painting looks very similar to my daughter. My daughter doesn't like her red hair even though it's absolutely beautiful which I tell her that all the time. Anyway, I thought that if I could find a copy of this painting, I could give it my daughter so that she could see how cute the little girl is and some how feel better about having red hair.

I love her hair and every where we go at least one person will comment on how pretty her hair is but she still says that she doesn閳ユ獩 like it. So, I thought that I would give this a try.

If anyone one has any information about the painting, the artist or where to search for the painting, please let me know. I would greatly appreciate it.

Hazlenut / caramel / honey highlights?

I have naturally dark brown hair (which looks even darker against my pale complexion!!) and blue eyes, I really want to add a few highlights (in lighter browns or very dark blondes, like hazlenut, caramel or honey) to enhance my natural colour and help me not look so pale and ill! does anyone have any pictures of their own hair like this? or from the internet...I can't seem to find what im looking for...i'll buy some hair magazines tomorrow but I just want to get an idea of how it will look for now....also any alternative suggestion would be good (please, no red!) thaaaaaanks

I'm the exact same way. I have very light skin and dark brown hair. I recently got caramel highlights and I love it! It really makes your hair lighter and your skin not as pale.

If you decide to get it, make sure you get it done professionally!!

school lunch - 35 cents at my school

Late 70's, with inflation, every thing went up in price:

Shoes - tennis shoes: $15 dress shoes: $22

hair cut - $12

jeans - $18 - $45 (designer jeans were in)

phone call - 20 cents

comic book - 50 to 75 cents

TV - ????

school lunch - 55 cents

You can try to find an old Sears catalog at a library to see if they have prices on some items to help you compare.

That's a 40 year period. The prices would have changed up and down many many times. There's no way anyone can tell you all that.

I'll give you this: when I was in high school, in the late 1960's, school lunch cost 30 cents, pay phones were a nickel for a local call; comic books cost a dime (special editions might cost 25cents).

razor cut is when they use a razor instead of the scissors. it makes it look really choppy so you should get it done.

Give it time- guys tend to mature more slowly. By the time you're 18 you'll have grown hair in all the appropriate places.
