I'm a natural blonde, but my roots are getting dark. My mom heard this idea from a magazine or something, but I want to make sure it's legit just in case she is wrong.

Sure if you want orang-y dried up hair! Been there done that which is how I know haha. Sun In does the same thing. Frankly if you want to lighten your hair use a hair dye that isn't ammonia based and follow it up with good conditioning treatments. I was a lighter blonde for years and that's how I did it after I fried my hair with peroxide and sun in a couple of summers in a row. It's best if you can afford to go to a hair salon to do it but if you're on a budget just get a really good hair dye product. Good luck :)

The product that ligthens your hair in the sun is made from peroxide... once my grandpa was putting peroxide on his head (he had a bump and thought it would help?) and his hair got bleached in that area.

I've seen Sun-In (the peroxide stuff that lightens your hair in the sun) on various people and it usually is more orange than blonde

Anyway I just wanted to say that if you ever want to get a perm, then you can't use any peroxide.. so if you use the stuff, don't go get any other chemicals put on your hair

doesnt make sense if ur a natural blonde why do u need to dye ur hair?

either way just buy the root dye they sell everywhere, it gives u the choiceof using only a little for the roots it works and is a whole lot controllable than peroxide because peroxide will give u that orangey color and just strip ur hair of anythign that resembles healthy and glossy hair.

There are "sun spritzes" in the store that are safe and have directions. I think Sun In is the one I use. It works great, especially in the warmer summertime. Looks totally natual.

Diluted peroxide is basically what products like Sun-In and John Frieda Beach Blonde (in other words, gentle lightening products) have in them. It's not particularly good for your hair, but as long as you dilute it well enough, it's not going to make it all fall out, either. You may want to ask a professional about what the ratio of peroxide to water should be, because I've heard that you shouldn't put bleaching products close to or directly on your scalp.

It might be okay, it's a risk, because it can go orange, but a girl I know died her hair completely with peroxide and her hair has been fine for months now.

3% H2O2 and diluting it with the same amount of wate would make it 1.5% H2O2. hm, i'm using this for my catalase lab in AP bio, weird. We didn't use gloves or anything so, i don't think it'll be harmful or anything. whether or not it will work is a different matter

it is safe, as long as you don't get it in your eyes, but it's VERY drying for your hair. Don't do it more than once. I used to do this in the 80's when streaks of blond bangs were in style. Your best bet is to just spend 11$ on a at home dye kit and do your roots that way. You can make it last 2-3 times for one box. There are softening agents in the ones you can buy over the counter.

No. Peroxide will only destroy your hair--peroxide works by blasting the color molecules out. If your roots are getting dark (which is typical) find a color that will enhance it and make a smooth transition. You will look really stupid and have lots of maintenance if you try to stay a blonde when you are really a brunette, which, natural colors of brunette are as highly sought as the platinum blondes (which, you can also see sites of many of these being made fun of for screwing their hair up, as in Scarlett Johannsen).
