To Blow Dry Hair- Or Not To Blow Dry Hair. Help!?

So- the question is about hair.

If you should be able to blow dry it or not. Because certain sources [ I. E : friends, family, fashion magazines. ] say to NOT blow dry your hair or else it will turn course, brittle and dry. But recently I went to a doctor that said you NEED to blow dry it because she has had a handfull of patients that have not done so, and have recently been experiancing neck and shoulder pain. I dont really want ither because my hair is allready dry enough. I am 13, so i am not sure if that is to young to be getting the pain.

Help!

Well, I like to mix it up, sometimes i let it airdry, n sometimes i blow-dry it....but if you blow-dry it make sure to turn it on low, even though it may take longer, it will keep your hair healthier....also, i blowdry mine by flipping my head over and blowdrying the bottom 1st, it gives it mor body!

repeatedly blowdrying your hair will indeed lead to your hair becoming brittle and dry. however, the neck pains seem to be the more pressing issue here. my advice is to blow dry your hair, but try to refrain from doing this too often.

I really do not see the connection between not blow drying your hair and neck pain?

That is really weird.

I think that blow drying your hair 50% of time the time is okay, and leaving it to dry naturally the other 50% is a good amount, that way your hair wont get over processed from all the heat.

That is if you want to blow dry your hair, but if you don't, I don't think it will cause any problems.

People have lives thousands of years without a blow dryer and survived.

Why would you experience shoulder and neck pain from not blowdrying your hair??? That's crazy. So far all these years before blow dryers were invented every one had shoulder and neck pain...?

I don't buy it.

I very rarely blow dry my hair because I don't feel it's really necessary, only when I go out somewhere to dinner nice or something do I really do my hair, otherwise I just wear it curly and usually in a ponytail or something... I save it for the special occasions when I'm willing to sacrifice some damage to my hair.

If you're hair dries fairly quickly or if you don't mind the dampness then you don't have to blow dry your hair. Just towel it and let it air dry. I have never heard anything about needing to blow dry one's hair to avoid neck and shoulder pain unless that person (who is out-of-shape or physically unable to do so) is trying to towel their hair by bending over forward and hanging their head upside down to dry it- which is a method I do once in awhile.

I haven't blow dried my hair for many years now and my hair is fine- I have no split ends or dryness. The closest that I've ever come to blow drying my hair recently is using a curling iron which blows hot air out of the curling barrel like a regular hair dryer- which doesn't affect my hair either.

Just remember to use conditioner for your hair and trim it every few month or so and your hair should be fine.
