When they say "don't wash your hair every day" what exactly do they mean by "was

I always see in magazines where they recommend you do not "wash" your hair every day. In my world, "washing" your hair means get it wet, wash with shampoo, rinse, use conditioner, rinse. So do they mean "don't use shampoo every day, but go ahead and condition"? Or do they mean "don't shampoo or condition every day but rinse it in the shower"? Or is it "don't even get your hair wet"? Also, if you don't "wash" it every day, then how frequently are you supposed to wash it? Thanks.

Don't wash means don't use a product that strips away oil (basically, anything that lathers). Definitely do not shampoo. You can certainly wet your hair as often as you like. I used to wash my hair every day, but found it looks better if I don't. The more you wash, the more oils your body produces to replace what's been washed away. The less you wash, the less oil is produced, and the less you need to wash. If you can go 2-3 days between washing your hair, you're doing good. I take daily showers, but wear a shower cap most of the time (mostly because I don't want to style my hair again). I wash my hair every 2-3 days with shampoo and conditioner, and it looks great.

its best to wash your hair every second day and when they say dont wash your hair everyday they mean dont use condition and shampoo but you can get it wet.

I wash my hair every other day. By wash, I mean getting into the shower, wetting my hair and then shampooing and conditioning. On the other days, water doesn't even touch my hair.

Having said that, I've heard of some people who wash their hair every other day still wetting their hair in the shower on the other days, just not shampooing and conditioning.

I'd say you should try different things and see which works best for YOU.

Rinse everyday. If you are a girl ( i use wax everyday like most boys so have to shampoo) then you aren't meant to use shampoo everyday or condition, however i don't think it has had any bad effects on me.

Don't use any cleansing product or conditioner everyday.

Don't even get your hair wet. Don't take this advise if you have a naturally oily scalp. If your hair tends to be dry (like mine) it works quite well.

wash means to shampoo and condition your hair everyday ; it's healthy for your hair to have the natural oils in it , and if your washing it everyday meaning ' using shampoo ' it dries your hair out and causes breakage.

Well, i guess it basically means that dont use the shampoo and conditioner everyday ( though i dont follow this because when u get into a shower, u have to shampoo ! )

maybe, it means that the shampoo+conditioner can be done on alternate days or something.

Don't shampoo and conitioner

It means don't 'clean' your hair, as you would with shampoo, everyday as it stimulates your oil glands thus leading to greasier hair. I would recommend you wash it every two days and please don't put conditioner on it without shampooing as it would be wasted reason being that shampoo opens your hair cuticles.

uhm.... is this suppose to be a trick question??? Wash means just that. . . Don't shampoo and condition every day. . . It is not good for your hair. If your hair is prone to oiliness then don't even get it wet everyday, 'cause this will just make your hair appear dirtier. . . Why would you want your hair wet every day anyway. . . remember you have to dry it after words. If you are a guy, go ahead and get your hair wet, it usually makes you hairstyling easier. . .

Then if you have short hair or normal to dry hair wash it about every 3 day's - it doesn't get dirty easily.

If you have longer hair (Shoulder length and longer) or any other hair tip such as oily wash it every 2 days.

Hope this will help!

I shampoo %26amp; cond. my hair everyday. I use a shampoo that says it's safe to use everyday. Although I think my hair is dry I do not see breakage. I have very thick hair and living in a tropical country makes me perspire a lot on my scalp. I guess it all depends on what works for you.

This does not mean getting it wet unless you have a perm, or a color. It is not necessary to wash your hair every day. Washing the hair can strip it from natural oils and keep it dry. People with dry/ and or damaged hair can get away with out washing the hair daily. A person with oily hair must wash it more frequently. It is a matter of preference. Some people don't condition daily, some do. There is no way to do it per say. How ever your hair looks and responds the best to you is the way you should treat it.

Everyone is going to have a different say on this one but from my schooling in cosmetology i have found a few different answers!

You definetly should NOT wash your hair everyday unless it is super oily- then you may have to. If you dont wash everyday you can get it wet and you could even possibly condition everyday. And there is no rule to when you are supposed to wash it. You have to decide that on your own depending on your hair type.

This is what I do: I wash my hair every third day. I have normal hair but color it a lot. So the first day I wash and condition. The second day I wet my hair and then when I get out of the shower, I use a leave-in. The third day I wet and condition with a light conditioner. Sometimes I dont have to wet it any of the days before washing again because the style still looks good.

So in this case, do a little playing around and decide on your own what works best for you!

Soap and Water or Shampoo and Water who cares.

They mean with a shampoo. It's OK to conditioned it with out shampooing. Just rinse your hair then add the conditioner.
