Chic Magazines and self esteem?

Do you think its better for someone to completely avoid magazines if they are feeling insecure, or just accept that those fashion/beauty magazines might bring them down? Even if the person is beautiful, magazines can still make someone feel not as good or good enough b/c of the perfect breasts and hair and makeup.

So, should insecure women avoid them until they can get more secure, or just deal with the media and keep reading the magazines since it is pretty much unavoidable?

avoiding a problem is bad

solving a problem is good

i used to feel kinda bad about myself too when i saw some super hott model, but now i just use that to set a goal for myself. i decided that hey, i can be hott too! ^_^

and besides, all those magazine models get airbrushed. it was in the yahoo news not that long ago.

keep reading the magazines, i think if yu keep looking at them yu will finally getover it.

well i know they make me feel insecure....

they are kinda unavoidable though, they're everyewhere and its not just the magazines. and they're always aimed at women! why has every cover of a magazine got an article on how to loose weight? were under immense pressure to conform to a standard and if you dont yor frowned apon

I think that magazines do make it hard to feel good about yourself because they present an unrealistic view of what we "should" look like.

However, some magazines such as the ones for teenagers try to promote self-esteem so they are attempting to achieve a balance.

The media is pretty much avoidable, but anything that makes you feel bad about yourself is not good and should be avoided if it's possible.

keeping up with magazines makes u always aware of urself, it's like a reminder that u should always take care of ur look, which is good, but u should know that NOT everything u see in these magazines is real, so be comfort and enjoy the pic's and take good care of urself, and don't compare urself with these modified pictures that shows unreal perfection!

It will not make a difference either way. An obsessively insecure person needs therapy. It is a common occurrence in teens which is what makes all the emphasis on looks and weight issues so hard on these girls. Their brains are not mature enough (literally)to determine what is real and what is for the camera.

When I was younger I heard someone say "keep in mind there are X million women in this world only 7 supermodels. How true! --- Peace.

I think its down to individual choice.

If it is really hard for you to read them then maybe you should stop.

The only thing is though, is that those magazines give you tips on how you can improve your looks (skincare, fashion etc) and if you stop reading them you miss out on that.

I once didn't read womens magazines for 3 months and I started dressing badly because I had no idea what was in fashion anymore.

I think it's down to you though. If it is hard for you then have a break from them.
