What kinds of hair dye can I use during pregnancy?

I thought at first that it wasn't safe at all to dye your hair when pregnant, but read recently in one of my pregnancy magazines that isn't necessarily true, that some hair dyes are ok. I am 19 weeks pregnant, if that has any effect on the answers. Which hair dyes are safe to use? Thanks!

First of all congratulations! The best hair die I found was herbal essence. The odor is more pleasant and as long as you have good vent the room you should be fine. you need to stay away from strong odors they'll make you yack. the wash out stuff works good! Any thing that's a more natural die seems to work best. However when you get close to the end avoid die at all costs whatever you inhale your babies new lungs inhale as well! Until then make yourself look as beautiful as you feel inside.

There are conflicting reports about the safety of hair dye during pregnancy: Several studies found no ill effects on pregnant rodents given 100 times the typical human dose of these products, whereas British researchers reported chromosome damage among women who dyed their hair. Although this study was not conducted on pregnant women, this finding suggests that there may be some risk to coloring your hair while pregnant.

As a precaution, some physicians advise you to avoid hair color until after your first trimester (the period when your baby's vital organs, head, body and limbs form). Colorants made from vegetable dyes such as henna are preferable to the chemical dyes used in permanent and semi-permanent formulas. Recent studies indicate that hair dyes contain relatively high levels of bio-available lead acetate that can be harmful to the fetus, particularly the nervous system and brain. Check the product label and avoid lead based hair products.

First don't do it if you are still in your first trimester, If there are any side effects that is when it will be most likely to affect baby,

Also

inhaling ammonia is what they don't want, you should do be in a well ventilated area

as well as the fact the your whole body chemistry changes so don't do anything drastic your hair will not take dye like it did before

I have used several diffrent kinds of dyes anything from henna hair dyes ( you can find them in sally's beauty supply or online) to anything in the drugstore there are a few out there you just hav to read the boxes

I asked my doctor, and he told me that it's ok to dye my hair. Just so long as you do so in a well ventilated area and don't like, scrub the dye into your scalp.

As far as I know it's not safe. Get your personal doctor's opinion. Also if you get your nails done, manicures, don't use the UV light to dry, that can also be harmful to pregnant women.
